Crane A&E Delivers First LTAMDS Power Unit to Raytheon Missiles & Defense
Crane Aerospace & Electronics’ Defense Power business made a commitment to Raytheon Missiles & Defense during a March 2020 site visit. The promise was to complete its first Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) power system and have it delivered by mid-May.
After years of technology development and months of LTAMDS-specific work from Crane A&E design, manufacturing and quality engineers, Crane A&E shipped its first power unit to Raytheon Missiles & Defense on Saturday, May 16.
“We are proud to say that Raytheon Missiles & Defense is receiving our latest and greatest, industry-leading power technology,” said Trey Endt, Crane A&E VP, Defense Power. “It took everyone in our factory to make our delivery happen. I can honestly say, there is not a person here that hasn’t touched the program in some capacity.”
Raytheon Missiles & Defense was selected by the United States Army in October 2019 to provide the next-generation LTAMDS, which is an advanced air and missile defense radar. The LTAMDS system will help the U.S. Army defeat advanced threats, including hypersonic weapons.
We're committed to providing a world-class product and are honored to support the U.S. military through our contribution.
Crane A&E’s ability to deliver its first power unit on-time is critical. It allows Raytheon Missiles & Defense to integrate the power system and begin proving out radar testing levels and capability on schedule.
To further ensure Raytheon Missiles & Defense was receiving the best product possible, Crane A&E built a new high-power lab at its Fort Walton Beach, Florida, site to accommodate power unit testing while also creating a suitable work environment for Crane A&E’s LTAMDS team.
“A tremendous amount of work has went into developing this first power unit, and we’re thankful to Raytheon Missiles & Defense for its support and partnership during our product development,” Endt said. “We’re committed to providing a world-class product and are honored to support the U.S. military through our contribution.”
